Vedic Cosmology Decoding the 5th Canto of the Srimad Bhagavat!
The atheistic gross material scientists cannot understand why life in the universe is rare by their limited vision and
point of view. They call this the Fermi paradox
The Fermi paradox (or Fermi's paradox) is the apparent contradiction between high estimates of the probability of the existence of extraterrestrial civilization and humanity's lack of contact with, or evidence for, such civilizations.[1] The basic points of the argument, made by physicists Enrico Fermi and Michael H. Hart, are:
The Sun is a young star. There are billions of stars in the galaxy that are billions of years older;
some of these stars likely have Earth-like planets[2] which, if the Earth is typical, may develop intelligent life;
presumably, some of these civilizations will develop interstellar travel, a technology Earth is investigating even now;
at any practical pace of interstellar travel, the galaxy can be completely colonized in a few tens of millions of years.
According to this line of thinking, the Earth should already have been colonized, or at least visited. But no convincing evidence of this exists. Furthermore, no confirmed signs of intelligence elsewhere have been spotted, either in our galaxy or in the more than 80 billion other galaxies of the observable universe. Hence Fermi's question, "Where is everybody?"
The Vedas tell us there are 14 different worlds and most of them are made of subtle matter and not the gross biological matter we are familiar with on this middle earthly planet. This understanding is what the material scientists are missing. The gross material scientists do not understand that 95% of the universe is made of subtle matter and that within that subtle matter exists thousands of different civilizations that is undetectable by the 5% of gross matter the scientists only know about.
Furthermore, the subtle material matter cannot be detected by gross material energy. The scientist doesn’t realize that it is our biological material bodies that restrict us from seeing the material universe in its fullness. All their elaborate technology is made of gross matter and cannot detect the subtle realities of civilizations that exist on planets all around us.
The Vedas tell us that life in the universe is everywhere (sarva gatah) although the biological stage of life is only found in the middle planetary system. All the higher worlds as well as all the lower worlds are made of subtle matter and the living entities on all those worlds have the same kind of subtle body ghosts have and those in the gross biological body like us, cannot see them or their subtle world.
Some have asked how the ancient sages and devotees new about the subtle characteristics of material nature or the subtle universe that takes up 95% of the material universe. Actually this knowledge is available to all of us; it just cannot be detected with gross material instruments or technology. It can only be detected by developing one’s higher consciousness.
This is why some yogis have this knowledge but such people are very rare in this age. Actually our gross biological body is the covering of our subtle body that is also material; we all have a subtle body also but is presently covered by the biological material body.
So we only presently see part of the material world (only 5%) through our biological body that further only allows us to see that gross material aspects of the universe. We are not seeing the other 95% of the material universe with our electron microscopes, telescopes, The Large Hadron Collider, the Hubble Telescope, space probes etc
The ancients all new about this and such knowledge is found in Vedic literature like the Srimad Bhagavatam that explains how one can have a more complete view of the material universe and even beyond that.
Modern science also agrees that most of the material universe is not seen, they call it dark matter and dark energy however, the subtle material universe is much more than that. So how can science detect the subtle material energy? With gross material means they cannot.
According to the Vedas, such knowledge is attained and realized through pious or even impious activity, by ones actions in this life. All cultures and religions have tales of other worlds they call heavens and hells, well, they do exist but all on the subtle level of material existence that is in the 95% of the material universe we do not see.
Do the bodies of those who exist in the 95% of the material universe we cannot see with our biological body, exclusively exist in the subtle matter? Or does a part of the material universe also exist within different realms of gross matter that are in different dimensions? And can the material scientists eventually detect those gross dimensions? It is difficult for us to say.
Some scientists believe in this multiverse theory which means there are multiple dimensions and parallel realities of this universe all around us, therefore, only in this way could other realities of biological matter also exists in a more or less advanced state.
However, the ‘subtle’ universe where there are no biological vessels or gross matter does also exist. The subtle material body is made of mind intelligence and ego however, such a description is vague because that does not describe the actual bodily form. The fact is the subtle body is a form not made of gross material elements. So what are the elements of subtle matter? The element described in the Srimad Bhagavatam 3.11.40 is ether, this is what subtle material energy is made of.

Eternal time is certainly the controller of different dimensions, from that of the atom up to the superdivisions of the duration of Brahma's life; but, nevertheless, it is controlled by the Supreme. Time can control only those who are body conscious, even up to the Satyaloka or the other higher planets of the universe.
Srimad Bhagavatam 3.11.40

This phenomenal material world is expanded to a diameter of four billion miles, as a combination of eight material elements transformed into sixteen further categories, within and without, as follows.
PURPORT
As explained before, the entire material world is a display of sixteen diversities and eight material elements. The analytical studies of the material world are the subject matter of Sankhya philosophy. The first sixteen diversities are the eleven senses and five sense objects, and the eight elements are the gross and subtle matter, namely earth, water, fire, air, sky, mind, intelligence and ego.
All these combined together are distributed throughout the entire universe, which extends diametrically to four billion miles. Besides this universe of our experience, there are innumerable other universes. Some of them are bigger than the present one, and all of them are clustered together under similar material elements as described below.

The layers or elements covering the universes are each ten times thicker than the one before, and all the universes clustered together appear like atoms in a huge combination.
PURPORT
The coverings of the universes are also constituted of the elements of earth, water, fire, air and ether, and each is ten times thicker than the one before.
The first covering of the universe is earth, and it is ten times thicker than the universe itself. If the universe is four billion miles in size, then the size of the earthly covering of the universe is four billion times ten. The covering of water is ten times greater than the earthly covering, the covering of fire is ten times greater than the watery covering, the covering of air is ten times greater than that of the fire, the covering of ether is ten times greater still than that of air, and so on.
The universe within the coverings of matter appears to be like an atom in comparison to the coverings, and the number of universes is unknown even to those who can estimate the coverings of the universes.

In the Maysya Purana the walls that surround this universe are described as a wall of earth composed of atoms. Then a wall of atoms of water. Etc.
ReplyDeleteIn Bhagavad-gita Lord Krisna says that He enters into each planet and keeps it floating in the sky. Similarly it is the Lord who is maintaining these walls.
In the universe where these elements are mixed together the human being has a "gross" material body comprised of earth,water,fire,air and ether. Ant the subtle body is comprised of mind, intelligence and ego. Modern day scientists no longer accept the existence of ether so when we tell them mind is a subtle energy made up of atomic structure they laugh. They think the "mind" is a property of electric synapses and chemicals in the physical brain.
Now for higher beings within the universe known as demigods their bodies are also not spiritual .Beginning with the lowest demigods their bodies are still composed of exclusively earth,water,fire,air and ether. They may live fantastically long compared to us in this age of Kali but not so when compared to humans living in previous ages.
The question is when do the demigods begin to have more "subtle bodies" That is a difficult question and if it is possible to have a body of matter that rejuvenates itself-as we do for 80 years then why not a body that will rejuvenate itself millions of years-that is demigod.
Are these bodies exclusively subtle matter or is the arrangement of the bodies simply a different ratio of gross to subtle. It is difficult for us to say.
But just as Lord Krisna is maintaining the walls of the universe without their collapsing so He is maintaining each and every body.
In Bhagavad-gita Lord Krisna says"The living entity under the spell of the three modes of material nature thinks himself to be the doer of everything"
