DURGA MAA - DURGA SAPTASHATI
The Devisukta is a collection of eight hundred verses found in the 10th mandala of the Rig Veda. Among Shaktas and Durga Maa bakthas, this vedic hymn is held sacred. They are considered to be the source from which the entire Chandi accounts sprang. This was later elaborated in the Puranas and Tantras.
It goes by two names: (i) Devimahatmya – the common and widely recognised name means ‘Glory of the Goddess’ (ii) Durga Saptashati or abbreviated as Saptashati. It is also known as Candi Patha where ‘patha’ refers to the act of ritual reading. ‘Saptashata’ means ‘seven hundred’. Candi is the reference to the Supreme Goddess implying ‘fierce, violent and cruel.’ In actuality Maa Durga is all loving in her nirguna form. Authorship of the slokas are attributed to Rishi Markandeya who attempted to unify female principle into the pre-existing Vedic cults .
Rig Veda 10.125 (Devi Sukta) declares that the Goddess is the power expressed through all the gods, that they are united in her who shines with consciousness, that her presence is all-pervading, that she supports all of creation, that she is the source of righteousness and the revealer of truth, that she is the source of all worlds, yet that she shines transcendent beyond them.
SAPTASHLOKI STOTRAM: Durga Saptashati or Chandi Path stotram has an alternative in a shorter version to get the blessings of Durga Maa. They explain the essence of the longer version of 700 verses in Durga Saptashati. It is said that this Sapta Shloki Durga Stotram was recited to Bhagwan Shiva by Durga Mata herself.
Legends have it that, Lord Shiva appeals Goddess Durga to point the way for devotees’ success. How were they to achieve success in their endeavours and overcome hindrances and problems? Apparently Durga Ma referred to the Durga Sapta Shloki. Those reciting these seven slokas with faith, devotion and pointedness of mind would receive her blessings. It is also a mantra for wealth, health and other blessings for auspicious living. It provides for good family life and leads one to knowledge.

Gnaninamapi chetamsi devi bhagawatee sadaa
Baladaa krushya mohaya mahamayaa prayachchathi
Meaning: Most Blessed Goddess, You Can Seize The Minds Of Even The Wise And Draw Them Into The Great Illusion.
VERSE 2
Durgesmrita harasi mathi mashesha jantho
Swasthai smrita mathi matheeva shubhaam dadasi
Daridrya dukha bhaya harini kathwadanya
Sarvopakara karanaya sadarthra chittha Meaning: Yet When Called To Mind In A Difficult Pass, You Remove Fear For Anyone, And When Called To Mind By Those In Happiness, You Bestow A Mind Still Further Pious. Who Else But You, O Dispeller Of Poverty, Pain, And Fear, Has An Ever Sympathetic Heart For Helping Everyone?

Sarva mangala mangalye shive sarvartha sadhike
Saranye thriyambake gauri narayani namosthuthe
Meaning: Salutations Unto You, O Exposer Of Consciousness, O You Who Are The Good Of All Good, O Auspicious Devi, Who Accomplish Every Object, The Giver Of Refuge, Mother Of The Three Worlds, You Who Are Rays Of Light!

Saranagatha deenartha paritrana parayane
Sarvasyarti hare devi narayani namosthuthe
Meaning: Salutations Unto You, O Exposer Of Consciousness, O You Who Are Intent On Saving The Dejected And Distressed That Take Refuge In You, O You, Devi, Who Remove The Sufferings Of All!

Sarvaswarupe sarveshe sarva shakti samanvithe
Bhaye bhyasthrahi no devi durgedevi namosthuthe
Meaning: O Queen Of All, You Who Exist In The Form Of All, And Possess Every Might, Save Us From Terror, O Devi, O Durga. Salutations Unto You, O Devi!
VERSE 6
Rogaana seshana pahamsi tushta rushta thu kaamaan sakalana bheeshtan
Thwama shrithanam navipanna raanaam thwama shrithahya shrayatham prayanthi
Meaning: When Satisfied, You Destroy All Illnesses And Afflictions, But When Displeased You Thwart All Aspirations And Desires. No Calamity Befalls The Men And Women Who Have Sought You: Indeed, Those Who Have Sought You Verily Become A Refuge For Others.
VERSE 7
Sarvabhadaa prashamanam thrailokyasya akhileshwari
Evameva thwaya karyamasmath vairi vinashanam
Meaning: O Queen Of All, May You Now Destroy All Enmity, And All The Afflictions And Miseries Of The Three Worlds!
